Day 14

Each generation passes on their legacy to the next but there comes a time in everybody’s life where you have to stop living the legacy that has been passed onto you and create a new one of your own and that’s what I try to do every day because I know that a marriage is supposed to be loving and nurturing contrary to what I’ve witnessed between my parents.

It’s 2:22 PM on day 14 of my journey towards independence and I’ve eaten breakfast, watched my mother and father blow-up at each other like a volcano right in front of us  – my mother asked my father to buy something from the grocery store my father responded with a snarky remark, an argument ensued and the next thing I know my dad was throwing the baked beans we’d made for breakfast at the kitchen wall – and last but not least I’ve managed to wheel myself all the way to the sitting room – three days in a row – which is something I wouldn’t have even dreamt of doing 2 weeks ago.

After I finished reading Eckhart Tolle’s book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose I  realized that I was letting my parents marital problems – something I had no control over – affect my life in an adverse way and from that moment onwards I decided not to let the things that I couldn’t control, control me and I’ve never been happier 🙂

  1. Beautiful Nisha, this blog really moved me! Not only are you on your own personal journey, which at times must feel so difficult, but you also have to live in a house with so much negativity around you!! YOU INSPIRE me to be a stronger person because when i read your blog i think to myself WOW just look at what this young girl is capable of achieveing despite her situation & this has made me realize how much i take for granted!! I completely agree with you when you said “we need to create our own legacy” and how you find the strenghth to not let your parents relationship affect you is AMAZING!! Nothing holds you back Nisha, & i admire you so much for that!! You have completely changed my outlook on things in life & for that i’ll be eternally GRATEFUL to you!! YOU are so strong Nisha & despite your own problems your changing peoples lives, i mean you must be because you’ve changed mine!! I feel so proud of you when i read about how much you have achieved so far & i have no doubt than in a few more weeks you will have achieved even more!!
